Most mornings, I find the thought of solid food unappealing. I originally came up with this smoothie to make sure I get enough protein in the morning without having to choke down boiled eggs or other stuff I couldn’t stomach within half an hour of waking. We ran out of peanut butter yesterday. This makes me a little twitchy. It’s an easy snack for toddler and mother alike, plus it’s delicious when you stuff dates with it as an afternoon treat. (I’m the only one who does that? Really? OK, moving on….)
While my cupboards are currently peanut free, they’re still bursting with all sorts of other nuts and seeds. So this morning I grabbed some out and stuck them in the Thermomix. And I’m so very, very glad I did.
This recipe is really more of a suggestion than a hard and fast set of rules. Feel free to use whatever you have in the cupboards. Replace the sunflowers with almonds, or the cashews with Brazil nuts. Or use all one nut/seed if it’s all you have. Continue reading “Mixed Nut-Seed Butter”

Last week I took the plunge and bought a Thermomix. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved my Bellini and it’s still working great. But many of the things I want to make really work better with the more powerful motor of the Thermomix. Since the new TM5 was announced, there’s been a flood of TM31 owners listing their machines for sale so they can upgrade. I took advantage of that and snagged a secondhand TM31 for $1200 – $700 off RRP.
I’ve started testing out the Thermomix and Bellini against each other for a future post. Today I made coconut butter (works OK in the Bellini, by the way – but much faster in the Thermomix). But I wasn’t in the mood for it plain. Since we’re a household of diehard chocoholics, chocolate immediately sprang to mind. And thus this deliciousness was born.
