Dehydrating for Fun And Profit: Capsicums

Dehydrating Capsicum

On Sunday I had a spur-of-the-moment desire to get the hell out of the house for a while. So Chipmunk and I went to the Farmer’s Markets at the Adelaide Showgrounds.

We had gluten free donuts and quandong flavoured ice cream. They were amazing.

Then we went and got fruit and vegetables. Among our finds was a stall selling 5kg bags of seconds capsicums for $8. So naturally I grabbed a bag.

Which meant Monday found me in the kitchen for a few hours, chopping and dehydrating capsicums. And since I’m such a forward thinker (OK, the idea only hit me part-way through chopping), I thought I’d do a photo tutorial on it.  Continue reading “Dehydrating for Fun And Profit: Capsicums”

Breakfast Bake, the Night Before

I was planning on having some epic content ready for today. Unfortunately, circumstances have conspired against me.  So instead of an in-depth article on what’s it’s like to be the significant other of someone with major depression, or even one of the cycling-related articles I’ve been planning for aaaaaaaages, we’ll have to make do with a recipe.

But it’s a pretty damn tasty recipe, if I do say so myself.

As a bonus, it’s also really easy to throw this together while you cook dinner. At least, it was for me. But I cheat and use a Bellini Intelli Kitchen Master to cook dinner whenever I can. Continue reading “Breakfast Bake, the Night Before”

Let’s Make Coffee!

Deadpool's pretty damn sweet, too.
Our Aeropress, making a hot cup of awesomeness.

We like coffee. By which I mean, I enjoy a wake-up cup every now and then, while the Raccoon seems to think he can’t live without it. So I thought I’d do a round-up of my favourite ways to brew, mix, drink, and enjoy one of the world’s most popular beverages.

I’d like to start by pointing out that we are in no way coffee snobs. We’ll drink just about anything, and most of the time we enjoy it – though my taste buds seem to be less fussy than my husband’s. And I’m under strict instructions to never make him drink Turkish style coffee again… Continue reading “Let’s Make Coffee!”

Water, Water Everywhere: Here’s how I Have a Drink

There are a distressing amount of nasties in tap water. Chlorine, pesticide and herbicide residues, traces of antibiotics and other prescription medications, fluoride – is it any wonder the stuff tastes so terrible?

Growing up on tank water, I never understood why so many of my town friends didn’t like drinking water. It’s still my beverage of choice, a fact that puzzles many. (“Are you SURE you don’t want some juice? We have soft drink or coffee if you’d prefer…”) Then I went to high school in town and discovered the reason for myself – town water tastes terrible!

I also discovered, much to my chagrin, that it messes with me in a serious way. Continue reading “Water, Water Everywhere: Here’s how I Have a Drink”

24 Hour Chilli

I haven't had much practise at ingredient shots. Can you tell?
Ingredients for 24 hour chilli, complete with ice crystals.

This is my adaptation of the beef chilli found in Nourishing Traditions (p433). It happened one day (well, yesterday) that, yet again, I’d forgotten to take things out of the freezer the night before I needed them. So I shrugged and threw it all in the crock pot anyway, figuring “eh, it’ll cook.” Clearly I like to live on the wild side. Continue reading “24 Hour Chilli”
